Illustration Friday- Immovable

I finally did it- I finally was able to draw something for Illustration Friday! :) I don't know why but this was one of the first ideas that popped into my head when I saw this week's topic. I was rather excited- especially when it comes to cupcakes. I Loooooove Cupcakes! They make me happy! ^_^ So needless to say- I thought it would be pretty cute to have a cupcake that may be pretty immovable for a little ant. Will it or will it not be immovable for this little guy??? THAT is the question. This was definitely centered around having fun and experimenting with markers instead of my usual colored pencils. I also learned I'm not great at drawing little ants... :( But, on the plus side I was pretty happy about my cupcake. And so now, I'm going to go have a cupcake to toast the posting of a illustration friday topic. Whoo-hoo!

Suki- the Kyoshi Warrior

The latest drawing is of Suki from the Avatar series. She is a Kyoshi Warrior and Sokka's girlfriend. Her face needs a little work, but overall not too bad considering I don't usually draw most of the human body. I think I'm going to try to redo this one in photoshop to see how well it turns out. I really want to try to color using photoshop and see how much of a difference it makes. I will always love colored pencils, but I also want to keep my eyes open to other possibilities. As always, this is an ongoing project in hopes of self improvement. I hope that over the course of time I can improve in my technique. But most of all, this is a way for me to get back to doing something I love. :) And I hope that a few people along the way will appreciate my attempts too.

Yip Yip! It's APPA!

Tonight I decided to draw the adorable, fluffy sky bison named Appa from the cartoon series AVATAR: the Last Airbender. It's a great series and I've thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I've fallen in love with the characters, especially this big guy. A sky bison that flies around helping Avatar Aang fullfill his destiny to learn all of the elements in order to defeat the evil Fire Lord (watch all of the series on http://www.digavatar.com/). Appa plays an important role in Aang's life and I just love his overall cuteness! I couldn't resist attempting to draw him. Again, this is far from perfect but I'm pleased with how he turned out. I'm actually pretty proud of myself considering how long it's been since I've really spent a lot of time working on my art. Off and on I've painted some canvas, but it's been way too long with some paper and a pen to actually sketch out something. One reason I decided to create Appa was because I can't help but smile when I see him. I've been in a bit of a funk for some reason and the only thing that seems to help is to draw and just let it flow onto the paper. And ta-da! We have our Appa drawing. Yip yip! I also drew the four elements (Water, Earth, Fire, and Air) which I'm pretty happy with as well. Tonight turned out to be a good artistic evening. yay!

LUCKY CAT

First drawing in a really long time. Feels good to start getting back into it. This is one of my favorite Japanese items I own. I love the Lucky Cat! I decided to draw him for my desk at work in hopes that he will bring me luck. Such a cute kitty. Is it perfect? No. But it's a step in the right direction. Now that the inspiration has began, hopefully more will be posted in the near future. Let the inspiration flow!!

Welcome!

Welcome to the "Life of B" aka: ME (BRIDGET!) This is definitely a new adventure I'm embarking on and hopefully others will enjoy the ride along the way. I plan on posting some art sketches which my friend Kim is also participating in. The site is called "Illustration Friday". We shall see how it goes. :)

Life of B will be a way to post quotes, stories, and pictures that reflect things that happen in the Life of me. :) Imagine that. A blog dedicated to yourself. Well, it seems I've finally joined the 21st century and jumped on that bandwagon. Although this will definitely not be a Julie/Julia project, I hope it will shed some light in areas that have decided to hide themselves. Also, I'm hoping it leads to a return to artwork on a regular basis. I have desperately missed drawing and doodling. Damn you Uncle Sam making someone work long hours!

I leave this first entry with one of my favorite quotes from Mark Twain, "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.".
